When Mr. Francis and Mrs. Inge Clivaz first founded College du Leman almost
fifty years ago, who could have imagined that our small school would come so
far so soon?
Throughout decades of hard work, of new ideas and shared successes the leaders,
students and staff of CDL have made this school a model for international
education.
Those of you who were among us in the 1960s will remember Mr. Clivaz living in
a small apartment behind his office, the first balloon, and bouffant hairstyles!
The Panther roared into existence as the CDL mascot in the 1970s, and thanks to
the dedication of the entire school community CDL received its first
accreditation in 1978 just as hair grew longer and skirts grew shorter.
In the 80s, students met both Nancy Reagan and the Queen of England before we
celebrated our 25 years in style with a giant party that the citizens of
Versoix have never forgotten!
Cell phones and computers changed the way we learned (and evaded learning) in
the 1990s. ... Gone were the days of sneaking out of the boarding house to call
a taxi at the closest unguarded telephone booth!
Finally, the new millennium marked the start of many changes at the school.
Within ten short years the student body rose from 1000 students to over 2000
and new buildings sprouted out of the ground like mushrooms after the rain...
Moreover, our community grew to include the Meritas Family of Schools, adding
yet another dimension to "Internationalism"!
Today, we can be proud of all that has been accomplished, and thankful for the
determination of those who helped us to get where we are now.
In 2010, Collège du Leman will turn 50 years old and we, its former students,
will not miss the opportunity of celebrating alongside the rest of the CDL
family - we never miss a great party!
Well, I'd say the Meritas family grew to include CDL (that way) .. but that is true; we never do miss one!
.. as these past days have proven. Again.
Hard to imagine Mr. Clivaz lived in a small apartment ..
I am excited to attend the Anniversary celebration. Are there any efforts to honor alums who have passed away since attending? Merci~! Claire (Ferguson) Garcia
