Escalade Reunions in planning.

December 12-14, 2008 – Locations to be determined.

L'Escalade, or Fête de l'Escalade (from escalade, the act of scaling defensive walls) is an annual festival held in December in Geneva, Switzerland, celebrating the defeat of the surprise attack by troops sent by Charles Emmanuel I, Duke of Savoy during the night of 11–12 December 1602. The celebrations and other commemorative activities are usually held on 11 December or the closest weekend.

We are looking for volunteers all over the world to host an Escalade event for other alumni in their areas. Typically we envision that the responsible alumni would make a reservation at a restaurant or hotel in their area (Swiss-themed if possible!), that invitations would be sent out to local alumni, and that this group of former students would get together to celebrate. The cost of the event should be fairly low since alumni and family will simply be paying for their menu choice at the restaurant. Organisers may also order a chocolate marmite from Geneva to be shipped in time for their event if they wish.

Latest CDL News.

New Director General: This is not “breaking news”, but CDL now has a new director general, and the management team as a whole has seen some significant changes. See the CDL website at www.cdl.ch for more information.

Student government starts the year with a splash: The first day of school at CDL is no longer only about class registration and getting down to work. The new student government, led by president and senior student Maya Grodman organized a welcome back party complete with a moon bounce attraction, BBQ and more. The student government is currently running an initiative on facebook named “improving CDL” in which current students and alumni may participate, please look them up and provide some well deserved support for this cause!

CDL Plans “Discovery Week”: ‘Discovery Week’ programs will be taking place during the week of 22nd September 2008. This will be a set of intensive learning experiences – fun and innovative but also rigorous and purposeful. Students will participate in a program of their choice to explore areas of interest beyond the regular school curriculum.

Featured Alumni of the month.

Kudos to Noora Reda, CDL class of 1982 for helping to organize the CDL reunion in Dubai this November. Noora is now in Hawai, but will be present in Dubai for the reunion. Thanks for everything Noora and for keeping the CDL spirit over the years!
