Congratulations on your retirement!!! Unfortunately, since I'm in Mexico City and waiting for my visa to work in Sao Paulo, Brazil, I was not able to make it to the reunion. I am going into my 7th year of teaching.
Thank you so much for being a wonderful head of school!!! I won't forget your kindness that you have shown to all of us.
It sure has been a long time since I used to
come to your office to ask for permission to skip class to take pictures for
the yearbook. I will never forget the times you caught us (yearbook
photographers) outside of class just hanging on around on the stairs and when
asked what we were doing you bought our excuse that we had just returned from a
photo shoot for the yearbook. I think we all knew you where not that gullible
and we appreciated the fact that you would let us slide in our senior year.
I will never forget the time you came up with the idea to
create Marco’s Page. I thought you were joking but instead you chose a whole
bunch of pictures of me with different girls and made it a spread in the 1987
yearbook. When it got published all the students thought I did it myself and
never believed me when I told me you did it. I think they were all a little
jealous, but you sure put me in the hot seat.
I sure have a lot of fond memories from the 4yrs I spent at
CDL. I firmly believe that as good as
CDL is, it will not be quite the same without you. Enjoy the retirement and keep in touch. I am
hoping to be able to attend the reunion next year and hopefully will get a
chance to see you again after over 22yrs.

Dear Mr. Gale,
Sadly I can't be there to see you on this memorable day...I'll be coming home from my most recent mission in Georgia only next week. I've ended up doing the profession I had dreamed of even when I joined CDL at the age of ten, and I would have never managed without the support and guidance of my teachers. Despite my periods of misbehaving (although I believe I did manage somehow to avoid the shame of standing outside your office awaiting a good telling off!), you always looked upon me kindly. Few students can boast that their headmaster treated them as individuals, watching them grow up, but I'm certain that there are very few students indeed at CDL who could say they did not receive that recognition from you. The impact you made on all of our lives will never be forgotten. I sincerely wish you a wonderful retirement,

Dear Mr. Gale,
Time certainly flies, but memories remain. 40+ years in CDL; you are indeed the heart and soul of this institution. You inspired and molded many students to become who they are now.
Being in charge of taking photos for CDL yearbook, I could not have done it without your guidance and photography tips. My sister, Christina Widodo, and I started our photography hobby due largely to influence of Mr. Gale. Fortunately we both had the privilege of capturing memories for CDL yearbooks of 1990 and 1993.
Thank you Mr. Gale for your wisdom, guidance, and more importantly for being a true class act. Enjoy your retirement and hopefully we can meet again in the near future.

i could not believe my ears when i heard you were retiring from cdl. you ARE cdl's heart & soul. i still remember my first day of school back in september 1970 & you were striding briskly towards us realizing we were new & had no idea where to go. my brother, steve, and my sister, frankie, & i were overwhelmed that day. over the next 10 years you enriched our lives with your constant, calming presence at cdl. my mother & frankie & i still talk about you periodically. we were sorry we could not be at the event next week but hope to get to geneva for the 50th anniversary next year. we hope you will be there as well! in the meantime, enjoy your retirement! travel, do fun things, but most of all, enjoy! :)
Congrats Mr Gale for 40+ years of grooming an unruly bunch of brats into young men & women ready to face the world... whilst our ability to solve quadratic equations may have stayed behind in the classroom, we left equipped with open and inqusitive minds, and great memories of fun times too...
Cheeky medal for the maths teacher with the largest female fan base....
All the best & thanks for everything...
Chris Class of '91 (I think)
ps. your maths classes inexorably led me to setting up a currency hedge fund... for any role I might have played in the current financial crisis I lay the blame firmly on you ; )

... For having faith in yet another apathetic and under-acheiving American teen and convincing him that school is, in fact, worthwhile:). I have nothing but fond memories of you and the sincere and thoughtful council you offered. More than just a principal, you were and always will be one the greatest and kindest souls I've had the pleasure of encountering. Thank you for being you, Mr. Gale, and enjoy your retirement- you've earned it!
It is often said that great teachers are never forgotten, and you are certainly no exception to this!
When I first came to CDL, the thought of studying algebra for a whole year filled me with complete horror, and I'm sure I would never have succeeded with it had it not been for your encouragement and persistence! Even now, 23 years later, I still think of you when I see an algebraeic equation and smile, remembering how you told me one day it would all just click into place, and it did!
Thank you for your support during my five years at CDL (back in the days of good old O Levels)! I did actually manage to go on to take 3 A levels, and went on to study marketing. Unsurprisingly, I never did a maths degree, but I'm comfortable in the knowledge that when my son learns algebra I'll be able to give him a few pointers (and your phone number!).
CDL will certainly be a very different place without you, and I wish you all the very best for a long and happy retirement.
Congratulations on your retirement...it has been 27 years since I moved home from Geneva but I can remember your math classes very clearly. Managing a bunch of 7th and 8th graders must have quite a test judging from my middle school aged boys...I can remember the stern lectures that a consistent few received but also lots of laughter in the class as well. For me, you are the face of CDL that I remember and thank you for those great memories.
